Nonviolent Direct Action for a Better World
Throughout history people have banded together to take direct action to improve their conditions. During this 2 ½ hour interactive workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of planning and implementing an effective action.
Monday, November 21st
6:30 pm
Unitarian Universalist Church
2015 Grandin Rd SW
Topics covered include: forming your group, choosing targets and tactics, risk assessment, decision-making, de-escalation techniques and more. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to help shape the agenda, ensuring the most relevant focus for local organizing.
Presenter:
Jeff Winder coordinates the Wayside Center for Popular Education, a regional resource center for social change movements. Jeff has more than 15 years of direct action experience ranging from anti-war and anti-nuclear work to Latin America solidarity campaigns to the anti-globalization movement in the wake of the 1999 Seattle WTO uprising. He has worked as an educator and trainer for much of that time, helping to prepare groups for nonviolent direct action.
Open to everyone. Suggested donation of $10 but please come regardless of ability to pay. No need to RSVP but questions can be directed to : Cindy Bowles at catchb@aol.com.
Reminder! December 31 we will be having a holiday dinner for the community. We are planning on feeding anyone who happens through the park. Will are planning on letting police/fire/ems know about the event, as well as delivering plates to the various stations so that the people manning the desks and phones can participate as well. We’ll be using sterno to keep the food warm throughout the serving times. Currently we have not set a time. Hopefully we’ll be doing that tomorrow, as well as finalizing some other details. We’re going to work to get some fliers made up, as well as get an event posted in the Times, after we finalize those details tomorrow.
IF THERE IS NOT AN UPDATE POSTED TOMORROW BY 8PM SEND ME MESSAGES CALLING ME UGLY NAMES!!
Currently our biggest need is for more people who want to cook and bring food to the park. Hopefully when we can provide more details we’ll have more volunteers, but currently we have:
Audette Occupyroanokeva Fulson with green bean casserole, and bread.
Matthew Forbes with a vegetarian chowder (I believe he will have smoked fish individuals can add for those folks who want some meat)
Mary OccupyroanokeVa Croft with Broccoli Casserole and
John Doc Houlihan with cheesy bacon mashed taters.
Tina Badger with some form of desserts!
If you want to bring something that is already on the list, feel free, or another variation of something on the list, feel free. Remember, our goal is to feed a whole ton of people, so if we have too much, that’s okay. If you want to volunteer, please sign up below.
