It’s 2012, people. The year of the Dragon. A year of unexpected changes, of power to those bearing noble hearts, of perseverance in the actions we have taken, of adherence to new undertakings.
We have […]

I have no title, no “Dear Person of Persuasion” to apply to this letter. This is a break from my usual routine, a message from our sponsors, by which I mean not breakfast cereals, pharmaceuticals or high-powered […]

In reply to: Mike C started the forum topic Leftists in the US South in the group Outreach Hey everyone. I’m Mike from Occupy Wall St. and was in Roanoke this past weekend. I forgot to mention that I help run a site called […] ViewDepending on what sort of contributions you need/use, there are a few writers amongst us. I’ve mostly done a series of op/ed commentary and John Houlihan does some commentary and some more researched, informational articles. There are some other writers within the community and we can certainly work to hunt them down… maybe get their creative…[Read more]

Ex: Work with […] ViewAfter randomly agreeing to Moderate today, I think that’s not a bad idea. Coaching others through the process is a great learning tool… and it helps those who have done it to reinforce their own knowledge of the system. Since we’re temporarily adopting the new formal structure to help things run smoothly, now would be a good time for us to…[Read more]

I, too, would like to see a physical newsletter, as Tina and I talked about in a post somewhere below this one. It would be useful for both the Absentee Facilitation and for dropping some copies at local businesses to increase public awareness.
Now that the car is up and running, I should be at the next meeting,…[Read more]

In reply to: TinaB posted an update in the group Outreach I talked with Jaymes yesterday about doing a newsletter. I am thinking this could be a form of outreach. It could contain educational articles as well as creative […] ViewIf I can get a ride down there, I will be, though likely not in time for the 1pm Outreach meeting. If I can’t make it down, let the working group figure some ideas out for the newsletter and I’ll throw my support and time behind it. God knows, if there’s one thing I seem to do well, it’s writing copious amounts. :p

It could contain educational articles as well as creative […] ViewI was talking about the same thing with my dad as a way to get information out to the absentee crowd. Maybe Absentee Facilitation and Outreach can team up to put together a workable newsletter that contains a mixture of “articles” for both the absentee members of the group and for those who have not yet joined.
The question is, as far as…[Read more]

In reply to: Benjamin Brightman posted an update in the group Internet & Social Networking I think that Occupy Roanoke Should Incorporate the access it has to the local University occupy sites. ViewI’ve noticed a few other regions starting similar projects, wherein they are creating online forums/groups for a number of nearby localities to use as a networking point. If it isn’t already out there, it would be akin to us making an “Occupy SWVA” or “Occupy Western VA” type group.
It’s not a bad idea, really, though I feel it’s…[Read more]

In reply to: Piper Lane posted an update in the group Outreach Outreach has taken on the creation and running of an information desk at Occupy Roanoke events. To get started we need a table, and a canopy if possible. If anyone […] ViewAs a matter of logistical simplicity, why don’t we use the food table as a location? A second table brings additional storage and transportation issues, whereas using the table we already have available makes for greater ease in the process. I don’t think it would be terribly difficult to reorganize the table so that both the Food and Outreach…[Read more]

In reply to: Matthew Forbes posted an update in the group Outreach I’m not certain as to what sort of permit(s) we may need for the idea, but has anyone thought about getting in contact with some of the local bands/musicians, […] ViewTalked with Jordan from Another Roadside Attraction. He has interest in it, but he’s not certain he could get the whole band down, though he could find some other musicians to play. He’s checking his schedule. He also mentioned we should focus on artists who can readily play in a powerless, acoustic setting.

I’ve agreed to head up a newsletter…I’d love something like this to get off the ground through the winter months as it would be a great way to outreach in bad weather.
